I'm on a shared server, but I don't think they crowd them. A dedicated server is about $400/month from media3.net. Given all the pictures, I've been pretty happy with how fast my pages load.
I think it would be fun to run a more interactive site. Problem is, my whole site is just written by me in html using wordpad. I like doing things from scratch, but building a forum or a blog is too much time right now.
