Installing Buzz Aldrin's Race Into Space CD Version on WIN XP
« on: August 26, 2005, 02:32:55 PM »
I started this topic for people like me, that are clueless on how to intall the game so it can work in Win Xp.  I have the following programs; Win Xp, DOSBox, D-Fend.  I have the CD Enhanced version of the game and it was great back in 1993 and it will be just as great in 2005.  I am looking for poeple who are willing to go step by step  with instructions on installing and running the game!  Looking for anything that can help; (websites, email, etc.)  If you are a fan like myself, PLEASE HELP!

Welcome chufire :D

Patience buddy!!!!

Most of the guys who are the experts at BARIS aren't here right now but trust me, they will try to help.

You needn't post multiple requests for the same thing

Just relax and they will have you up and running soon I am sure.

And again, welcome to the forum.

I'll trade my first born to get BARIS running on XP....Coudn't do it with D_Fend.....got it up and running once with DOSBOX; couldn't get it to run  a second time. I might be wrong about this, but I think that BARIS has installation problems when you attempt to install it directly to XP, that will prevent it from happening. Again, I'm talking about the CD-ROM Enhanced version here. Incidently, I'm up for a PBEM game or a direct Internet game.Joe
but I still haven't found what I'm lookin for.

I take it you've found page 20 of the main BARIS thread? If not, head there first, and come back if theres any issues.

I don't know if this would be any help, but this is how Paylas got it to work (without D-Fend 2):

I recommend to use DOSBox, it's freeware and you can download it at http://dosbox.sourceforge.net/. Edit the "DOSBox.conf" in the section "[Autoexec]" and mount your Harddisk and CD-ROM with the following commands, e.g. "mount c c:\games\" & "mount d h:\ cdrom"

Run Dosbox, install BARIS and play the game. If you still have problems with the movies, change the options for your cdrom drive. More information about that you will find in the readme file of Dosbox.

I found this at http://sourceforge.net/forum/forum.php?thread_id=1220022&forum_id=438959 .

I got the game working on XP with the following commands after [autoexec]
mount c D:\
mount d G:\ -t cdrom -label BARIS

Before that I had received two errors
-When installing "CD-ROM drive not found"
-When loading CD-ROM Version 1.1 and nothing would load

Do you have any problems with the videos or audio in the game?

I think the mission videos have a problem.  Kind of like how you would get snowflakes on your TV and the same sound until the mission is over.

Well... I do have a Pentium 4 2.8Ghz HT and a windows XP home edition OEM.
and when you launch the missions you can see all the visuals, and sounds.  I just beat one game yesterday.  The only thing is that the movies are a bit fast (not to mention my computer).  So... I guess we can start the new BARIS religion

 really? just by using those extra 2 flags on the mount command? or something else?
