apollohoax web site problem

This is not a problem with this web site, but another. I can not see apollohoax for several days now. Does any one else have this trouble?

I think John Witts (the owner of the site) accidently let the domain registration expire, but someone posted the registration info on the BABB forum showing that it has been renewed until April 2006 so hopefully it will start working again soon.

Unfortunately the previous owner took off without giving John all the details about the website so he might be having a hard time getting it up and running again. I can't do much to help since I don't have access to that part of the site (I'm not even sure what company hosts it).

I have a backup of the forum (although it's a few months old) so if it doesn't come back to it the way it was a few days ago we can still recover most of it.

As the days go by I'm becoming less and less sure that it's coming back.

Someone pointed out on the BABB forum that although one WHOIS page says the apollohoax.com domain has been renewed others say it hasn't been. I don't know what to make of that.

I don't know... maybe JayUtah can transfer the forum to his Clavius site. I've got a backup of the forum, but it is a few months old I think.

Well, I decided to set up a new forum for Apollo Hoax. It's a free (ad supported) service but it does the job. The only big problem is that I can't import the old posts... so I guess that means a fresh start.

Hmmm... it's working fine for me. How long have you been having that problem? Are you viewing it from work or at home? If at work, is it possible your employer is blocking it?

It's working again.  I was having the problem this afternoon from work, but I'm sure it wasn't blocked.  I don't know what the problem was.

LO,

I can't access Apollohoax this morning.  Is there a problem that you know of?

EDIT:  The main menu page did eventually load up, but all the sub-pages are extremely slow in loading.  In some cases I waited minutes before finally giving up.

EDIT #2:  Seems to be working OK now.

It seems to be working ok for me, and the forum's server (server 21) is online. I'm wondering if maybe there is an issue with one of the servers in between you and the forum.

Try clicking on this link, it will trace the route that packets follow from your computer to the AH forum and back. It will tell you where the hang up is.

Is it just the forum that is loading slowly, or is the main site slow too? If it was a problem with the main site you'd most likely also be having problems with TheSpaceRace.com because they share the same web space.


Edited to add: Proboards has been upgrading the forums lately, so maybe they've been doing something that has slowed things down.

I might have just gotten lucky and missed the problem. I was away from my computer for a while.

I would not be at all surprised to find out there was a "denial of service" (DoS) attack happening. I can easily imagine a HB with a grudge against us encouraging his friends to try to bring the forum down, and they wouldn't even need to be very skilled to do it.
