Mission Control Sim?
« on: April 08, 2005, 07:22:52 AM »
Does anyone know of any simulators of mission control situations in software (preferably kinda cheap, or even better, free)? I'd be very interested in such a product, with the ability to simulate malfunctions etc. and I can see it being very intense, in a race to fix the problem, or at least work around it. I think this would work even if it was limited to a single console, focusing on one particular system in the spacecraft. It could simulate both manned and unmanned missions, and include situations such as the Apollo 13 explosion, and the possibilities for fictional missions are endless.

I've always been very much interested in the ground support side of space travel and admire not only those actually in the craft, but those back on the ground who have dedicated their lives to the space program.

I'm not aware of any, but that does sound like a good idea.

I have always thought that this would add an interesting extra dimension to a follow-up game to BARIS.  Imagine, instead of just watching the spacecraft explode, the master alarm light goes on and you are tasked with getting your damaged bird home!
