I am glad that Kerry conceded and not pull a "Gore" calling for a recount.  I thought there was gonna be a ton of lawsuits and recounts.  The governor's race here in Washington is still too close to call.

I too hope Bush does carry through with his promise of returning to the moon and Mars.  It might be easier now since the house and senate are mostly republican.

Yeah, I'm not happy with the results, but at least there won't be another recount fiasco.  Oh well, this means that the space initiative is more likly.

Hopefully he wasn't "promising the Moon" just to get re-elected. ;)

I don't think so Kel. As Bob pointed out, spaceflight was not much of an issue to the general public in this election.

On the other hand Bush hasn't been following through on his proposal. He has not said one word about it since the initial announcement. He has not been trying to persuade Congress to fund the plan, etc. I doubt he was really that serious about it in the first place.
What me worry?

This has been on British television non-stop. Umm, I was also rooting for Bush, I think Kerry would make a good president but I think it's wise not to change leaders in the middle of a war.

Also, watching the numerous speeches by the candidates it appeared to me that Kerry was spending a lot of time talking about the war in Iraq and how Bush had fought it badly (something you don't really need to tell most Americans!), instead of focusing on domestic issues. I also didn't really trust Kerry, but I wouldn't trust most presidential candidates!

I think Kerry made an amirable decision in conceeding defeat, it may also be to his advantage- he'd have a tough time. He may even get in another time, the democrats don't appear to have anyone else, and Hilary Bush won't get far!!

My two cents from across the Atlantic. :D

Let's save the 2008 election for 2008, ok.  Let's get back to the space topics.  I forgot the scientist/engineer who said this quote "Never let politics get in the way of your goals."  Was it Von Braun?
Speaking of Von Braun, his daughter teaches over at University of Idaho (8 miles away) as a professor of enviromental sciences or something.

One of my friends told me it was not a scientist but Stalin who said that.  Great...I am quoting history's number one killer.  Of course I can't find who quoted it on the search engine.

I think it was Lenin, not Stalin, but I'm not sure.

I agree: after the initial announcement, it has become eerily quiet

Oh who cares who said it, it's all about the context of how the quote is USED.  Sigh, someone got in major trouble at my school for quoting Hitler last year, despite the fact that it was just before an election and he had simply pointed out that he had said somthing along the lines that leaders like it when people don't think.

Space wasn't an issue in the campaign, but I think space in general caught people's attention, what with the Centennial of Flight, SpaceShipOne and all the possibilities the future holds. I think Bush probably carried most of those who care about technology, space, etc. I did see the Bush and Kerry space advisors debate on C-SPAN, or some channel, a couple weeks back. I think Bush does care a lot about NASA but he has to prioritize.

Khanthavone - I love that Goddard quote :!:  It is very inspirational. I think Gene Cernan appropriated it in his remarks as he, the last man to walk on the moon, made his way back to the LM.
