I've been given the go-ahead from Michael and Fritz

"Go ahead and host an image of the game privately, just don't charge
for.  If you could provide a link to the sourceforge page I would
appreciate that.

Fritz's reply was:
"Good to go!

Of course if any out there want to donate...

Fritz"

So there y'are :D

I'll throw a makeshift page together, and give Peyre access to the uploading side of things...

Watch this space ;)

*fingers crossed*

Same here. I've been playing the version from the Underdogs for years now, and I'd just love to get my hands on the CD version.

Same boat here.

Thanks to Peyre for compression and uploading :D

If you REALLY feel the need for an FTP download, give me a shout. And if you hit a server issue, same as.

EDIT: I suppose i should thank Bush-E himself for paying for the server...

Ok, it seems the original copy I made doesn't work.  For whatever reason, the game doesn't recognize the CD if you copy the files--you have to copy the CD itself, which is trickier.  An ISO file won't do the trick, apparently.

I've created a new file.  It's an image of the CD itself, and I've tested this one to make sure it works.  You should be able to download it now: http://www.bush-e.co.uk/bariscd/BARIS_CD.zip.

Now, in order to burn this, you'll need to download and install CloneCD from http://www.slysoft.com/en/download.html.  When you burn the CD from the image, select Game CD.

Thank, Peyre. Unfortunately, I now have to tell you everything that's going wrong. :(

In case it makes any difference, I'm running Windows XP Home Edition and DOSBox version 0.63.

So, I downloaded the zip file, unzipped (the file, that is!) and burned the files to a CD following your instructions (the burn went perfectly). The first problem I encountered was during installation. Files 1 through 72 copied just fine, but the program choked up at file 73. I allowed my computer some time, and more than half an hour later, the installation was complete.

I started the game (the intro went just fine, instrumental music and all) and went right into the American space program. Now, I've got good news and I've got bad news....
The good news: President Eisenhower gave a stirring speech...whoops, wrong news! The good news is that the music works more consistently than before and the news videos work fine, too.
The bad news: The mission videos are still screwed up, but many people may not encounter this problem since the game also tends to stop responding (and I don't mean a simple black screen glitch; the program is said to be "Not Responding") after two or three turns.

I'd be happy to provide any other information about my computer or my dosbox.conf file if you need it.

In any case, thanks for all the work you've put in, and thanks in advance for any more time any energy you put towards getting this all to work right. :D

I have had talks with Bush-E (the owner of the hosting) and he has elected not to continue to pay for hosting for another 12 months... This means that the site WILL go down as of 31st April. If anybody wants to download, they can do it now, the server can take it, as we have no problems with bandwidth, just funding...

No pressure Peyre, but if you can get this resolved before then, we can get this game out to as many people as possible...

Sorry guys...

Could it be a simple issue of the file having been corrupted during upload?

The OS shouldn't make a difference, since we're running it through an emulator.  Still, you never know.  And you're running the same version of DOSBox as me, so that's good.  Now, I'm also using D-Fend2, since when it comes to games I'm more of a GUI person than a command-line guy.  Don't know if that makes a difference.

I had a similar problem when I tried to install BARIS on my 2000 machine.  It doesn't install completely.  I'm not sure why, but I couldn't get it to install right--even though I'm putting it on a FAT16 partition and not an NTFS.  What I ended up doing was installing the game on a Windows 98 system, then copying the install folder to my 2000 box and pointing DOSBox to it.

I've zipped up that preinstalled copy and made it downloadable from another location: http://geocities.com/lordpeyre/main/BARIS_Installed.zip .  Instead of running the install on the CD, unzip BARIS_Installed.zip to a FAT16 or FAT32 drive (it will automatically create a \BARIS folder and place the files and subfolders inside it). Rename the folder if you like. Then follow the instructions above for running the game in DOSBox. This installation is set up on drive D:, with the CD-ROM on drive K:. You should not actually need to place BARIS on your drive D: and have a CD-ROM drive on K:, but be sure to set up DOSBox to mount the drives as those letters.

NOTE: The BARIS_Installed.zip link above doesn't seem to work right for me if I click on it--so you may have to copy and paste it into a browser.

Let me know if that works for you!

Say LEO, am I right in thinking you don't have any other lines just now on somewhere we could host the CD-ROM version?  I've managed to create an ISO that works properly, rather than an image using CloneCD.
