hungary lost much after the war . same with austria  and the ottoman empire

i agree with the allied idea that every nation should have its own state . however that was not the case

there are large hungarian minoritiies in the now neighboring nations . which should - according to the plan -  have remained with hungary

austria lost southern tyrol - german speaking majority

and i bet there are more examples which i dont know off  hand

Not to mention that, while other countries such as Yugoslavia were allowed to have monarchies if they wished, Hungary (and Austria) were not.  The Austrians were happy enough to become a republic, but the staunchly monarchist Magyars were forbidden to let their own king into their country...so much for national self-determination!
