Do you own a DVD player?
« on: June 01, 2002, 02:00:00 AM »
I've had my DVD player for about two years now and I love it. If there was a fire in my building I would grab my DVD's on the way out. "<img">  I have about 60 DVD's in my collection, ranging from comedies to drama, and a lot of science fiction.

I think DVD players have become popular faster than CD players or VHS recorders did. So... are you one of the millions of people who have been enjoying movies on DVD?

I will be, shortly after Christmas.

I was informed that Costco will be dropping their prices in January and, since I have a friend who is a member there, she recommended I wait.

I will be making my first two DVD purchases for Christmas though, and they will be "From the Earth to the Moon" and "The Fellowship of the Ring"!!!!

Go figure!

I'm sure you'll love it Bill, and you have definately picked two great movies to start your collection. I hope you don't mind watching movies in "widescreen" format though, since that's the format roughly 80-90% of DVD's are in.

A lot of people don't like widescreen because of the black bars at the top and bottom of the screen. They think they're losing some of the picture but they're actually gaining it because in order to make a rectangular movie picture fit a square TV without making it widescreen they have to crop some of the picture off the sides. It can be annoying on small TV's, but I have a 27" TV and it looks fine. Also, if you watch the movie in a dark room you don't even notice the black bars.

I personally prefer widescreen, although I admit it took a little while to get used to it.

Welcome (soon) to the DVD club... if you're like me you'll find it addictive. "<img">

I just bought a new DVD player today... I've been playing around with some video editing software on my computer and I want to put my families old home movies onto CD's. My old DVD player can't read those types of video CD's (VCD's) so I decided to buy a new one. VISA is going to send their knee-breaker after me soon! ":smokin"  ":eek"

So far I'm not impressed with my new player... it's ok, but I expected more for some reason. I should have shopped around a bit more I guess... oh well, I'll get used to it. ":\"

I've already offered to sell my old player to someone at work, otherwise I would offer it to you, Rusty.

They have been on sale around here for as low as $39.95 for just a basic unit, which is what I will likely start with.
