The second qualifying flight will begin at 7am PST (10am EST).

Burt Rutan said on CNN tonight that the $10 million X-Prize will recover 40% of their investment.

White Knight & SS1 are in the air and on their way up to 50,000ft. Mike Melville is at the controls of White Knight this time, Brian Binnie is the pilot of SS1.

SS1 launched successfully and it's on it's way back... no official word yet on whether it reached the winning altitude, but it looks like they did.

The SS1 didn't roll this time, but it still had some "wobble".

Miles O'Brien just reported that the X-Prize organization has officially confirmed their altitude... they've won!  :D

They also broke the altitude record set by the X-15.

Watching the webcast this morning.  I think they said SS1 made it to 340,000 feet.

I'm watching the X-Prize webcast now... Brian Binnie just said the unofficial altitude is 368,000ft.

The x-prize speakers were better this time.  No visible fights in the background this time!
I thought Rutan's first words at the press conference would be "Show me the money!"
The x-prize people will hand over the check sometime in November.

Lucky bastard.  I really want to be in any of the spacecraft designer ( / Astronaut, what I really want) shoes/boots.

By the way, what about the other designs, so they don't get any money then?

Nope, just the one that did it first. But I'm sure there will be other prizes to be won. I believe someone already put money on getting a craft into orbit.
