It's on the ground and still alive! Woo-hoo!  :o

Time for bed now.

My wife and I clapped when the tones came through.

I did a silent cheer... didn't want to wake the neighbours. ;)

We will know in 3 weeks if we will have 2 rovers working at the same time.

THIS IS GOOD FOR NASA! Some of the lessons learned from Columbia were used for these rover missions and is being attributed as a big factor in this success.

Looks can be deceiving, Bferrero. In that "red dirt" could be signs of water, or even past life.

Spirit has rolled to the surface now.

This is where the real fun begins, and I am looking forward to the exploration!

Yep, now it should get good!

I cracked up when they played "Born to Be Wild" as the wakeup music!

"Get your motor running,

 Head out on the highway..."

I woke my daughter laughing - at 1:00 in the morning.  OOPS!

I can't wait to see the rover's arm reach out to a rock to do some work... if only the rover had a microphone so we could hear it grind the surface off of the rocks it looks at.

Was anybody else jazzed looking at the closeup of the soil?  Just the ability to view in this kind of detail!  These are the sands of Mars, seen as if you were lying on the ground peering through a magnifying glass...

Jim,
I look at all the images coming in everyday at the JPL website.  I know the media has lost interest in Mars but I sure as hell have not!  I know when Opprutunity lands, the only station to carry it will be CNN.  Kind of sad that science will always take a back seat to Jacko the molester in today's media!

Speaking of Spirit, what day is it landing, the 27?
