Very well put LunarOrbit!

A lot of people complain about the costs of NASA's programs and some say we should put the money to other uses.  NASA's budget is only 1/16th of 1% of the GDP of the nation.  The social programs began in the 60's are now taking over 35% of the GDP, which is bigger than defense spending (if you don't believe me, check the IRS site to see where your money is going).  I would say there are many parasitic social programs (like social security) that should be eliminated that are not as productive as NASA and have bigger budgets than NASA.
NASA has made claims that the technology spinoffs have produced $10 for every $1 invested.  I say NASA is conservative, that every $1 spent has produced $1000, considering the number of spinoff techologies, multi-billion dollar industries and countless jobs created.

Not bad considering I wrote it at 2am after playing a video game for 4 hours straight. ;)

It will be NASA that people run to for help when a giant asteriod is discovered zooming towards us. It will be NASA that beats the path that leads to colonizing other planets -- which is a necessity -- ever hear the phrase "don't keep all your eggs in one basket"?

I found your debunk of the argument before I heard of this forum but I didn't know wrote it (I think). It was linked from Battleground:Halo.

Firstly, I think that it is extremely unlikely that the moon landings were faked. Anyone that says otherwise has simply been brainwashed by these so-called documentaries, and has failed to research and discover the facts.

I think that three things provide enough evidence to support the landings. The samples brought back from the lunar surface that date back 4.5 billion years, the fact that Russia was monitoring NASA for such hoaxes, and that a hoax would be far more complicated and expensive than actually landing on the Moon. Also why would they repeat a hoax a further six times?

Besides, all of these conspiracy theories are based on photographic evidence. If you argued that the Americans had no film to show the public, and therefore faked the film, what would be their argument be to support the hoax of the entire mission?

As for the future moon landings, aren't they long-term landings? I read that the Americans are also researching 'super-dense particles' as an alternative to propellant. Possible or not, it is still fascinating. Space is our oyster!

Exactly! Every time they faked a mission it would increase their chances of being caught.

I know. The theory just falls apart when examined.

I think a lot of this is conspiracy nonsense is born out of the public's skeptical views towards Government.

I saw another 'documentary' a while ago, that claimed that the American Government was behind the 9/11 attacks.

Yet people believe these ridiculous ideas because they want to. These theories are compelling in idea, but horse**** in fact!

I just discovered this news report.  It looks like it's official, the moon landings were a hoax!  How could I have been so stupid for believing it was real for all these years.

One of the biggest reasons I strongly support the establishement of extraterrestial colonies is that we can't predict what will happen tomorrow.  There could be a global disaster that could wipe the human race out.  Until we start to establish colonies away from the Earth, we are vunerable.
