Oh, so it's for cooling in transit. I thought you meant it was for use on the ISS.. Sounds like they are using "dry ice" (CO2) or perhaps nitrogen ice if excessive CO2 buildup in the compartment would be a problem.

More info on Icepacs and Ice Bricks can be found here: http://www.nasa.gov/centers/johnson/engineering/life_support_systems/crew_payload/index.html

It looks like a refined version of a drink cooler with those "blue ice" re-freezable blocks.

Pretty much!  Wish I had "blue ice" that would keep our road trip drinks and food that cold for 4-5 days.  But then I probably couldn't come close to being able to afford them...

Ed,
Just make some Pykrete! :D  Around here, dirty snow lasts for a couple months after all the regular snow melts away.

Great splashdown on the Dragon.  Congrats to Elon and SpaceX.  I look forward to seeing their upcoming launches and projects.

Anything cold enough to keep the drinks cold for that long without very bulky (or very expensive) insulation would probably have to be cold enough that the drinks would be frozen solid.
