Just putting out a feeler here.

Wondering if anyone shares my interest in military history.

I find military history interesting. I don't know a whole lot about it though.

Probably World War 2 history. I think "Saving Private Ryan" was what got me interested in it.

I'm interested in human warfare, right from the start.  I'd love to know how our early ancestors developed the idea of warfare.  I'd also like to know if wars occurred between our ancestors and Neandertals.  It certainly makes pre-history more intersting to think of all the possibilities.

I think my main interest in military history is the technology they have developed, especially in the area of aviation and the navy. As terrible as war is, you have to admit they usually push technological advancement.

Of course I also find the stories of the people (from the leaders to the foot soldiers) interesting.

Orstio,

I am of the feeling that warfare was invented by our ancestors to protect what they felt was theirs. I guess we have never developed the capacity to outgrow that feeling!

Kel,

I agree with you on the technological advancements. Unfortunate that they have to come about in that fashion!

And the individual stories I have always found fascinating.

But what do I know.

I am a bit interested myself.

My place of birth, Greensboro NC, is rich in military history, mainly from the Revolutionary War.

An actual battle took place here and is the basis for the City and County. The Battle of Guilford Courthouse is reenacted every year here and we have a marvelous park dedicated to the battle.

The name Greensboro comes from General Nathaniel Green and there are several streets, roads, schools etc. whose names are originally derived from the battle.

Our hockey team, The Greensboro Generals (ECHL), was also named so for the history of the battle.

I guess that would somewhat explain our team being called the Ottawa Senators!

I suppose it's better than the "Bureaucrats" though.

Or the "Parliamentarians", or , the "Members"(of Parliament).

Although my area is not "rich" in military history, and I envy you that, it has never stilted my interest in military history, or, for that matter, history of any sort!

I guess you are either born to it, or you don't give a rat's a$$.

Unfortunate.

3 months and a week later I thought I'd revisit this topic to see if there are any more comments to be made!

Thought I would add that I find myself even more interested when I am able to visit Historical sites such as museums or places like Charlestown S.C., or our National Archives in Washington and yes KSC.

Failure is not an option!

Rusty,

Aside from Revolutionary War sites, you must have a $hitload of Civil War sites to visit that are relatively close to you.

I tell ya, when I finally win that frickin' lottery it will be time to but a Winnebago, tour all the Civil War battlefirleds and then park at KSC till I've seen about 20 launches!!!!

I don't ask for much.

Only what would make happy, to paraphrase Sheryl Crow":lol"

When I win the lottery I'm going to go to KSC (hopefully to watch a shuttle launch). Then I'm going to go to DC to visit the Air & Space museum again. The last time I went I was only about 10 years old and I don't remember it very well.

I guess I should actually buy lottery tickets if I want this dream to come true!

When I win, I will buy a house facing 39a & 39b. Then we can sit on the deck and watch all of the launches.

Then I will simply buy a Winnebago and come visit!

I will have to learn how to get my belt up to nipple level.
