Japanese anime series, "Planetes"
« on: September 11, 2006, 02:30:18 PM »
This review caught my attention and I wondered if anyone here has seen it or heard about it?

In terms of my 'space entertainment buying priorities' this would be waaaaay down the list after a good number of books and a few 'Spacecraft Films' DVD's-- but it does sound somewhat interesting.

It sounds interesting, I'll have to look for the DVD's. I've avoided most Japanese anime (a lot of it is nothing but animated porn) but they do have some good science fiction stories too.

I prefer to think of Cowboy Bebop as depicting our future.  :-)

An interestingly humorous space-related series would be "Wandaba Style", in which boy genius Prof. Susumo Tsukumo tries to send a group of four girl singers to the Moon--without using combustion or nuclear power. We see parodies of many space-launch alternative proposals, such as a cold gas/water rocket (fueled by soda pop!--IRL that would never get enough ISP), balloon-lifted launching, linear rail gun, space elevator/tether, and surface-based catapult.

Interesting opening for the show: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SY29pCnMlIw
Kind of like the opening to Enterprise.
