My profession is computer science, and Wired is an outlet for the very poorly respected MIT Media Lab. They are the very definition of "boon doggle" in my field, and very out of touch with problems of real importance. The magazine is owned by an egomaniac named Nicholas Negroponte, who also runs the Media Lab. To give you an idea of his ego, Wired put him on the cover as the recipiant of some one-time award for "greatest computer scientist of all time" sorta thing. His own magazine! Hehe.
