An interesting article on how the "War on Drugs" and the "War on Terror" are working hand in hand with lawyers to destroy amateur science in the US:

Don't get me started on this information/technology censorship.  It is B.S. ... just like the law that was passed saying you cannot modify a game machine (playstation) even though you bought it!

Wow, I just ordered a bottle of Heavy Water from United Nuclear.  I knew they were having trouble.

Normally I would pause to point out what a junky source of information Wired Magazine is, but this time I think they got their facts straight.

Building a CanDu reactor huh?  Deuterium (Heavy Water) is an excellent moderator.

I've only read Wired magazine five times in my life.  I never thought of it as a news magazine... I always thought of it as a gamer mag or a printed version of G4TV.

My profession is computer science, and Wired is an outlet for the very poorly respected MIT Media Lab.  They are the very definition of "boon doggle" in my field, and very out of touch with problems of real importance.  The magazine is owned by an egomaniac named Nicholas Negroponte, who also runs the Media Lab.  To give you an idea of his ego, Wired put him on the cover as the recipiant of some one-time award for "greatest computer scientist of all time" sorta thing.  His own magazine!  Hehe.
