Was the board down earlier today ??

I got a 'not found / can't access' error then, but now it logs in quicker than usual...

Yeah, I noticed it was down for a while but I'm not sure how long, I think I caught the tail end of it. It wasn't just this site though, my webhost's site and their support forum were also down. It was probably a 'denial of service' attack, not likely directed at us. If I find out more details I'll let you know.

Edit: It turns out my webhost had a power failure and for some reason their backup generators didn't kick in.  :x

But you're right... it does seem to be loading faster than before.

Yeah... the memories. ;) Everything should be ok now (but I'm keeping my fingers crossed just in case).

In our department at Bell Labs, we had a big machine room with a bunch of VAX computers in it (whopping gigantic 1 MHz computers that we all shared.  Hehe.)  Power failures were so annoying that we decided to buy a big uninterruptable power supply that filled an office-sized room with batteries and racks of electronics.  Now we could run our computer for a day or two without outside power!

One day, we had a big power outage in the area.  It was then that we realized that when the power goes out, the airconditioning goes out too!  Actually I realized that, when I went in the machine room and it was about 95 F.  No problem...it was winter, and we opened windows and set up some fans to blow cold air into the room.  We felt so smug...

...until our uninterruptable power supply shut itself off.  We forgot that it needed air conditioning too, and its little room had gotten over 100 F.
Never send a human to do a machine's job.

I'm sure glad to know this info. It's just I was in the process of uploading some files and the whole thing more or less vanished, plus I wanted to add some photos too. But I wanted to get permission from the web site owner first. The website owner couldn't find thissite, was routed the the spacerace portal, then couldn't even find the server. :(

I think a notice of server/service disruptions would answer a lot of questions of members  here - repetitive questions about the server.
...Roger, and the clock is ticking.
