Boeing, Lockheed reaffirm commitment to ULA joint venture
Boeing and Lockheed Martin Corp. have reaffirmed their commitment to the proposed United Launch Alliance joint venture as the best path forward for lower-cost, reliable access to space for U.S. government customers. Today is the date in the master agreement that affords the option to withdraw support for the joint venture if it has not closed. With both companies hopeful that regulatory approval is forthcoming, Boeing and Lockheed have agreed to continue supporting the proposal.

The proposed venture, announced in May 2005, will combine the two companies’ expendable launch programs—Delta and Atlas. ULA will be headquartered in Denver, with operating locations in Decatur, Ala.; Cape Canaveral, Fla.; Vandenberg Air Force Base, Calif.; and Harlingen, Texas. Both Boeing and Lockheed Martin agree they will continue to support the alliance while awaiting pending regulatory approval of government customers and the Federal Trade Commission.

“I know we are all anxious to move forward,” said Dan Collins, vice president of Launch Systems, in a message to the Boeing Delta team March 29. “We believe that ULA will provide assured access to space more affordably for our government customer, and we’re hopeful that the government, following thorough review, will come to the same conclusion in the near future. In the meantime, we remain focused on mission success.”
