I also enjoyed all those films . . .  I would like to add;

1. The Day the Earth Stood Still (Gort, Klaatu barada nicto!)
2. When Worlds Collide
3. War of the Worlds (the original)
4. Aliens (the best of the series IMHO)
5. The Incredible Shrinking Man
6. The Fly (the original)
7. The Fifth Element (mostly for Leelu)
8. The Sixth Day (excellent job by Tony Goldwyn)
9. Robinson Crusoe on Mars
10.Forbidden Planet
11.The Day of the Triffids
12.The Day the Earth Caught Fire

The Day of the Triffids... I have not seen that one in years.  That was good British Scifi right up there with Dr.Who and Blake's 7.

Agreed SM. The Brits actually came up with some pretty good sci-fi in the 50's & 60's except, of course, for a nuclear explosion blowing the moon into interstellar space :?

Space 1999...  I only saw a few episodes when I was a kid.  I wonder if scifi channel will air it?

Speaking of Dr.Who
I tried to build a life sized Dalek but never had a enough time to finish it so I scrapped it.  I was going to put it out for Halloween but I was a afraid the college students would steal it and make it into a beerbong.  I could see it now... the Dalek upside down, two frat boys holding it up, one filling it with beer and the other is drinking out of the "eye".

Another British show I really enjoyed when I was younger was "UFO".

Most likely for Lt. Ellis

I used to watch Space 1999 and UFO whenever possible.  UFO ran on weird schedules and times here in the States, as I recall. :?

UFO use to play on Saturday mornings before the cartoons came on when I was younger.  There was one plane design I always thought was cool.

Can't go past Dr Who.  It is a rare TV program that can get you screeching its catch phrase in unpleasant electronic tones ten years and more afterwards . . .

Speaking of Saturday mornings, I used to be obsessed with watching Fireball XL-5.  Goofy puppets, but neat spacecraft.

Actually, Douglas Adams wrote the screenplay so I don't think he would complain too much (not about the writing anyway).
I saw the name at the end of the credits but I think it must be someone else as Douglas the writer has passed on IIRC. Perhaps I'm wrong.

The passing of Mr Adams did put a dampener on production, which is why it took a lot longer than it would otherwise have taken, but he did indeed write the screenplay.

From what I have heard, he actually wrote the screenplay 20 years ago. Now, maybe they made some changes to the story after he died that he would disagree with, but for the most part the story is his.
