Apollo 18 The Moon Missions
« on: September 25, 2005, 04:20:53 PM »
I have this great Apollo 18 simulation from Aim software and even though it is a little dated graphic wise I think it is still a very good Apollo simulator.
I did have this game up and running under WINXP just fine but had to uninstall it.
Now I can run the game but without the motion pixels - even though I have downloaded mpixels suitable for winxp - the simulation does not accept thhs saying it cannot run under system NT.
Any help on this greatfully accepted
Regards,Colin

I used to play that game on a Commodore 64 when I was a kid. It was fun, but I never got past the docking with the LM on the way to the moon, it always froze on me.

Good luck getting it to work in Windows XP. I haven't tried so I'm not going to be much help.

This is a totally different game and not to be confused with the old commodore 64 game

Oh... I didn't even know about another Apollo 18 game. Is it this one? Looks cool.

It looks cool, but there's some really whacky stuff in it. Make one typo, klabam, start over. Fail to hear one digit correctly? No way to get Houston to read it back so....KLABAM.....I believe there's a bug somewhere in the landing of the LEM part. I never got it to work. In the end I got so fed up with the whole game I threw it in a box and never installed it again. No match for "Shuttle" IMO ;)

I used to play it a lot on my old Windows 98 computer and completed the entire Moon Mission once without any problems - other than the ones programmed into the sim - even had the now famous 101 error -had to be very quick to solve them though - but the extensive manual helped - based I believed on the actual Apollo manual.
With today`s graphics etc this game would be fantastic if it were udated as I believe the concept is sound and very atmospheric - it would also benefit with a save capability and even a pause key.

You might want to try out Orbiter if you haven't already. I hear there is an Apollo add-on, but I haven't tried it.

Forgot all about Orbiter - used to play it all the time.  Thanks for mentioning it and the link info.

Yeah, NASSP (The apollo addon) was great, but its since started to go adrift following the original creator's departure from the community. It was taken over by some less experienced people and IIRC, the next release was a little shaky... I have all faith they'll pull it back round though
